GoDaddy loses over 37,000 domains due to SOPA stance

by Administrator 27. December 2011 15:50
It's been a hell of a Christmas weekend for GoDaddy. The hosting and domain registrar company lost more than 37,000 domains in the past couple of days due to its shaky stance on the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act. According to information reported by The Domains, over 15,000 domains were transferred off Thursday and another 21,054 on Friday, despite GoDaddy's attempt to control damage by withdrawing its support to SOPA. The backlash against GoDaddy kicked off after the company appeared on an official list of companies supporting SOPA, a proposed bill that would allow the U.S. Department of Justice and copyright holders to block access to sites accused of infringing copyright... Rumor: Apple readying cloud-based movie streaming service

by Administrator 14. October 2011 11:50
Apple could launch a new movie service before the end of the year or in early 2012, according to the Los Angeles Times. The paper says representatives from Apple have been meeting with studios to finalize deals that would allow users to buy movies through iTunes and then access them on any iOS-based device. Although the Los Angeles Times didn't cite iCloud specifically, the report says Apple plans to "put movies in the cloud." That sounds similar to the music, iBooks and document storage features of the newly launched service, so it makes sense that iCloud serves as the backbone for a movie service. It's unclear if movies and TV shows would be downloaded to devices -- as it's curre... [More]

by Administrator 5. October 2011 16:48
Summary: When suppliers try to tie their technology to misleading catch phrases, does it really work for them or just create more market confusion? Over the years, I’ve watched several attempts to brand products with a new catch phrase that shows a frantic rush for suppliers to look bigger than they really are. Often this begins with a generally accepted phrase. That phrase is then attached to something else in the hopes that it will make the product or service appear well known and acceptable. In the end, it is unnecessary confusing. An example from long ago was when Oracle started describing their database clustering technology as “grid computing.” The folks ... [More]

Host Net India, Indian based network services company has launched shared hosting plans targeted towards bloggers, forum communities, personal websites, and small businesses. Employing Cloud Linux is one feature that helps shared hosting become more of a reliable resource vs using Linux without the ability to limit one site's resources should they get a sudden influx of traffic.
